Disadvantages of Microwave popcorn

A report from the FDA indicates that a chemical coating used in microwave popcorn bags breaks down when heated into a substance called perfluorooctanoic (PFOA). The Environmental Protection Agency has identified PFOA as a “likely carcinogen.” Another study has found an acid that can be extracted from the chemical causes cancer in animals and is “likely to cause cancer in humans.”

A second potential danger in microwave popcorn is diacetyl, an FDA-approved chemical found in the fake butter flavoring. There’s even a debilitating respiratory disease called “popcorn workers lung,” (the medical name of the condition is bronchiolitis obliterans) suffered by microwave popcorn factory workers caused by extended inhalation of the chemical’s fumes. The National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health, (NIOSH) concluded that diacetyl needs further study so that workers in the flavorings and snack industry are no longer at risk
The Food and Drug Administration continues to study whether consumers can develop lung disease from inhaling diacetyl. In response to the concerns regarding the risks of diacetyl exposure, a number of microwave popcorn manufacturers have discontinued using it in their products.

How to cook fresh broccoli !

Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Trim the broccoli into serving size pieces. Put the broccoli, a few pieces at a time into the boiling water, don't over load the pot and never cover a green vegetable while it's cooking!!!! Cook the broccoli for 3 to 5 minutes, just until the stalk is tender then remove it from the pot and put it into ice water. Repeat with the remaining pieces of broccoli. You can either reheat the broccoli at serving time in a microwave or just put it back into the cooking pot for a minute or so.

4 Signs It's Time to Change Your Workout Routine

Top 4 Signs Your Workout Isn't Working

1. Your workout bores you.
You used to like walking on the treadmill, so why do you dread your workout each day? It's easy to get bored if you stick with the same routine for too long. Sometimes it helps to add variety to your walks. For example, try taking your workout outside, adding speed intervals, putting new music on your iPod or bringing a friend along. If all of that isn't enough, then maybe it's time to try a new activity. Perhaps you've always wanted to try biking or are interested in a new class at your local gym. Change can help keep your workouts fun and interesting, giving you something to look forward to. And that is exactly what will keep you coming back for more.

2. Your workout isn't giving you results anymore.

Someone who does the same activity all the time is likely to plateau much sooner than someone who varies her workouts. Just as you can get bored by always doing the same exercises, your body can also adapt to these exercises so that they don't offer the same benefits that they once did. A little variety might be just the thing you need to get the scale moving again or bust through that strength plateau. "Variety" means either changing something about your current routine (adding speed, distance, hills, resistance, etc.) or trying a totally different activity. If you like some consistency and don't want to change your workout each time you hit the gym, change your routine at least every 4-8 weeks (this includes incorporating changes to both your cardio and strength training exercises). This will keep your muscles challenged, your body guessing, and the results coming!

3. Your workout leaves you more tired and sore than before.
Exercise should give you more energy, not leave you feeling rundown. If you're feeling overly tired or perpetually sore, you could be overtraining. Your body needs time for rest and recovery. It is during this down time that you build strength and endurance by allowing your muscles to rebuild and repair. If you don't give your body ample recovery time, you'll become weaker instead of stronger. If you have been overtraining, your first priority should be rest. You might need up to a week off to recharge mentally and physically. Once you are feeling better, start back slowly. Reevaluate your workout program and find ways to make changes that will prevent this from happening again.

4. Your workout is no longer challenging.

Running a 10-minute mile, for example, becomes easier as time goes on. If your workouts aren't challenging you anymore, it can be helpful to wear a heart rate monitor. Your heart rate will change over time as you become more fit. By using a heart rate monitor, you'll know to change up or intensify your routine, and ensure that you're working in your target heart rate zone. Challenging your body improves your fitness level and can also provide a sense of accomplishment as you become stronger and work toward your goals.

Is white bread fattening?

White bread is flour, flour is carbs, carbs are sugar. Studies show its actually worse 2 eat white bread, rice, potatoes then a candy bar! So yes it is fattening. Eat whole wheat things, they are "complex" there is a book called "good carbs bad carbs" you should read.. Because it's full of simple carbs that turn almost instantly into calories. Because most breads have a lot more calories than whatever you bought.

Most importantly:

Because most people don't eat just two slices!

Why Can't Some People Gain Weight?

Metabolism

  • Genetics often has a lot to do with why a person might not gain weight. While some people's appetites do not fluctuate, other people just like to eat more and never seem to get full. Then there are those individuals who put on excess weight as muscle and not fat. Researchers at the University of Maryland recently investigated the role of human growth hormone in gaining or losing weight. The study was designed to take a closer look at why individuals gain weight at different rates, despite maintaining similar activity levels and consuming the same number of calories. The theory is that increased levels of growth hormone may cause a person to burn more energy, thereby preventing weight gain. On the other hand, although exercise can boost the production of growth hormone in the body, weight gain reduces growth hormone levels.

    Medical Causes

    • The truth is that some individuals who struggle to gain just a couple of extra pounds do not eat enough protein to put on weight. Vitamin and nutrient deficiencies can contribute to being too thin. Like losing weight, gaining weight takes time and cannot be achieved within a few days. People trying to gain weight must learn to eat healthfully, just the same as those individuals who are trying to lose excess pounds. The nutritional content of the foods you eat makes a difference, along with eating more than the amount of energy you use.
Other medical conditions can contribute to the inability to gain weight. Graves' disease, or hyperthyroidism, often causes people to lose weight despite having an increased appetite. If hyperthyroidism goes untreated for a prolonged period of time, muscle tissue begins to waste away. Chronic lung disease can cause unwanted weight loss as well. Considering that it takes a lot of energy to breathe, proper nutrition is essential. Eat a high-protein diet and do not drink fluids with your meals. Drinking fluids makes you feel full, so you might not eat as much. Increase calorie consumption by 300 to 500 calories each day
      Gaining Weight
One way to gain weight is to increase caloric intake by eating more. Since people typically should not consume more than 15 times their body weight in calories to maintain, when trying to gain weight, you need to increase the number of calories. A person should eat about 20 calories per pound of body weight in order to gain ½ to 1 lb. each week. After two weeks, if you have not gained any weight, increase the number of calories you consume by 10 percent. In other words, if you have been consuming 2,000 calories each day, increase the number to 2,200. These tips are based on averages, as an individual's activity level and rate of metabolism can make a difference. Individuals who fail to gain weight within a few weeks of increasing their caloric intake likely have a fast metabolism.
    • No matter your metabolic rate, the key is to not let yourself get hungry, or else you may end up losing muscle. Eat at least six times throughout the day, which means eating a meal about every three hours. Be consistent and consume the same number of calories each day. Eating lots of healthy carbohydrates and protein, and building more muscle cells through weight training, can help you to put on more weight.

Working Out with Your Boyfriend or Girlfriend

Working out with your boyfriend or girlfriend is an idea the two of you should consider, regardless of whether or not you share a similar level of passion (or lack thereof) for physical fitness. There are a number of benefits to working out out together, and not all of them are as obvious as others.

Easier to Find Time to Exercise

One of the most common excuses for not exercising regularly is that it's difficult to find the time to work out between work, school, family and social obligations. If you have to sacrifice time with your boyfriend or girlfriend in order to find time to exercise, chances are you're going to choose your loved one over your fitness routine. However, if you can schedule a few dates at the gym or just working out at a park or at home, you'll be spending time working out with your significant other, effectively taking care of two important tasks in your busy day at once.

Exercise Becomes a Lot More Fun

Another reason why either one of you might avoid exercising is because the same old routines can become boring, especially when you're alone. Exercise seems more like a chore or a punishment than a part of a positive, healthy lifestyle when you're alone. However, when you're working out with someone you love, you'd be surprised how quickly the time passes. You'll laugh and catch up with each other's news since you saw each other last. You'll look forward to the time you spend together working out.

You'll Spend Time Bonding

Any activity in which you're both active participants face-to-face with one another can prove to be an incredible bonding experience for the two of you. Seeing a movie or watching TV together are passive activities in which neither of you will get to know the other better and thus you won't be able to truly enjoy each other's company. Texting, chatting or playing games online all remove the face-to-face interaction that you can get when you spend time together in the same room. If you shut off all distractions and start working out with one another, you'll have plenty of time to talk, laugh and above all, bond with one another.

You Can Test Each Other's Affection

It's one thing to be attracted to one another after a shower and an hour or more of primping before a date. When you shed the makeup, the fancy clothes and the coiffed hair, you ought to still feel strongly attracted to each other. Working out together will mean that you'll both be sweaty, potentially a little smelly, flushed and a little unkempt when you're finished. If you can enjoy the time you spend together, bonding without regard to each other's physical appearances, you'll know that you truly care about each other.
